Meeting between Iranian Vice President and the Minister of Environment and Climate Change of Qatar

on bilateral environmental issues

On the sidelines of UNEA-7, Dr. Shina Ansari met with H.E. Dr. Abdullah Al-Subaie, Minister of Environment and Climate Change of Qatar. In addition to discussions on UNEA-7 documents, the two sides exchanged views on bilateral environmental issues.

Both parties emphasized the importance of strengthening regional cooperation to combat dust storms. They also discussed collaboration in developing air quality monitoring systems, combating the trafficking of falcons, advancing marine environmental cooperation, and addressing drought challenges.

The Qatari Minister highlighted his country’s strong commitment to environmental issues and, while referring to the friendly relations between the two nations, stated: “We are fully ready to cooperate with Iran in tackling sand and dust storms, and we look forward to receiving Tehran’s proposals on managing this phenomenon.”

Dr. Ansari, in turn, underscored the significance of marine ecosystems and noted that the potential of the ROPME Convention has been overlooked. She added: “We expect this environmental convention among the Gulf countries to be implemented. We are also keen to expand cooperation under ROPME and utilize its capacities to address environmental challenges in the Persian Gulf.”
