In light of the historical presence of the Iranian-originated community- particularly Balouchis and Shirazis- along the East African coast, which represents a treasured part of Kenya's cultural heritage, a two-day academic and cultural seminar titled "Retracing and Interrogating the Footsteps of Persian Culture and Civilization on East African Communities" will be held on February 6-7, 2025 at the University of Nairobi.

This event, organized by the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in partnership with the University of Nairobi, aims to explore the rich historical and cultural connections between Iran and East Africa, featuring esteemed scholars from Kenya, Iran, and Tanzania.

To enhance this event and delve into practical strategies for reviving and promoting this valuable cultural heritage, as well as explore opportunities for collaborative efforts to strengthen bilateral cultural relations, all the scholars, researchers, historians, archaeologists, anthropologists, linguists, and cultural enthusiasts are invited to contribute to a comprehensive exploration of the main theme through a multidisciplinary lens in a conference aiming to foster dialogue, exchange ideas, and deepen our understanding of the rich history of between Persia and the East African coast.

Additionally, an exhibition is also planned to accompany the seminar, highlighting the historical journey of the Balouchi-Shirazi presence in East Africa. in this regard, all communities, historians, museums, and private collectors are invited to contribute artifacts, documents, and historical items related to the early Persian influence on the East African coast for an upcoming exhibition. Items such as tools, manuscripts, pottery, and textiles that reflect Persian interactions and heritage are welcome. Your contributions will enrich the exhibit, illuminating our shared history and fostering a deeper understanding of our interconnected past.

It is worth noting that the first conference on this topic, held in Nairobi in 2001, resulted in a published book that has inspired significant academic research. We are confident that the proceedings of this seminar will be published similarly in Kenya.
